GEL NAIL ADVICE

GUIDE

Consultation

The following local contraindications will not prevent treatment but your therapist will avoid the contraindicated area:

  • Cuts/Abrasions

  • Bruising/Swelling

Please seek medical advice prior to booking a Gel nail treatment if you have any of the following. Medical permission in writing would need to be obtained:

  • Undiagnosed lumps and swellings

Please do not book for a Gel nail treatment if you currently have any of the following:

  • Infectious skin diseases (Impetigo, Scabies, Chicken Pox or Mumps)

  • Broken bones

  • Ringworm

  • Fungal Nail Infections

  • Paronychia (whitlow)

Pre-treatment Advice

  • If you currently have Gel polish on please ensure you book a Gel removal or have the Gel polish removed prior to your appointment.

Aftercare Advice

  • THE FIRST 24 HOURS

  • Avoid exposure to water for long periods i.e. swimming and long, hot soaks in the bath

  • Reduce exposure to heat i.e. hot ovens, sauna or sunbed

  • Wear gloves when doing dishes, housework or gardening

  • Be careful when using insect repellents, sun creams or any alcohol based products. Cleanse after application to avoid this causing the gel to lift prematurely

  • Moisturise your hands and nails daily. Apply Cuticle Oil once or twice a day to the cuticles to prolong the life of your Gels.

  • Don’t file and shape your nails. This will break the gel seal on the free edge and may cause the gel overlay to lift

  • Don’t pull or pick at the gel – this will cause damage and thinning of the natural nail

  • Do not use your nails as tools, this will lead to chips and breaks

  • Always remove your Gel polish properly. We have gel removal home kits available to purchase in salon or we also offer a nail removal service.

  • If you have any problems with your treatment please contact us.
